Cirk biZ’arT Brings New Circus the Old-Fashioned Way to Prizren, Patras and Athens

Cirk biZ’arT invites audiences into an hour-long cabaret where contemporary circus meets the spirit of old-fashioned variety shows. Created and performed by Jonah Katz, Laurie Roger and Rémy Bombled, the show brings together tap dance, acrobatics, clowning, breakdance, French Cancan, absurd situations and a generous dose of self-mockery. Drawing inspiration from the great traditions of American burlesque, the trio takes familiar circus and cabaret forms and deliberately pushes them off balance.  

Improvisation and interaction with the audience are at the heart of the performance, making each encounter different. Beneath its physical comedy and apparent absurdity, Cirk biZ’arT also plays with ideas of difference, non-violence and crossing borders. The company describes laughter as “a weapon of mass construction” , a way of bringing people together and, for one hour, looking at the world a little less seriously.  

Born from the encounter between its three performers in 2013, Cirk biZ’arT has since travelled widely, performing in a broad range of settings and for very different audiences. This ability to adapt, improvise and create a direct relationship with spectators remains central to the company’s approach.
