Re-Garde and many faces of the gaze

Re-Garde is a choreographic duet by the French company MF | Maxime & Francesco that explores one of the most fundamental human experiences: the act of looking. Performed by two dancers, the piece focuses on the many meanings a gaze can carry and the ways it shapes our perception of ourselves and others. Through choreography and a carefully crafted interplay of light, Re-Garde transforms an everyday gesture into the central subject of the performance. 

The work examines the gaze as both a form of communication and a source of judgment. It reflects on the feeling of being watched, observed or scrutinised, while also revealing the gaze as a silent language capable of creating connection and shaping reality. Throughout the performance, the two dancers move between being observers and observed, accomplices and strangers, exposing the subtle shifts in perception that define human relationships. 

Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, Re-Garde invites audiences to question the ways we perceive one another and ourselves. Through the dialogue between choreography and light, the performance reveals how a simple glance can become a gesture of care, complicity, control or misunderstanding. By constantly shifting between these perspectives, the piece turns the act of looking into a shared experience of perception and interpretation.
