The Art of Storytelling: International Workshop on Puppet Dramaturgy and Production
On 20–21 November 2025, the Maltepe Yaşar Kemal Cultural Center in Istanbul will host The Art of Storytelling: Puppet Dramaturgy, Production and Collaboration, an international programme dedicated to dramaturgy, production, and intercultural collaboration in contemporary puppetry.
Organized by Bu Yapım and hosted by the Municipality of Maltepe, this intensive two-day workshop will bring together performing artists, theatre professionals, and puppetry practitioners from different countries.
Programme
On 20th of November, the first day will be open to the public and will feature an introductory talk, a presentation of the contemporary puppet performance MEOW, directed by Tito Lorefice (2024), followed by a discussion with the creative team. The event will explore the dynamics of international collaboration — addressing cultural specificities, working with puppets, audience engagement, and navigating the festival circuit.
On 21st of November, a full day of practical workshops will be led by Milena Milanova (France), coordinated by Burcu Görek (Turkey), with the online participation of Svetlomira Stoyanova (Bulgaria).
The workshop will be held in English and is open to international performing artists, theatre professionals, and puppetry practitioners. Participation is limited to 15 people, and full attendance on both days is required.
