REFACE on tour in Southeast Europe

REFACE is a physical and musical research exploring transformation, deformation, and the alteration of materials. Everything is in transition: bodies, memory, the social environment, nature, love, political powers. Movement infiltrates all things, resisting the creation of definitive forms. This instability is worked on an intimate scale, where faces and emotions remain troubled and plural.

The piece seeks to make visible this constant state of transition, the imperceptible and incessant metamorphoses that reveal the complexity of who we are. REFACE expresses the impossibility of separating self from other. This ambiguity is not a failure but a mystery, an inspiring uncertainty that fuels the body and imagination.

With REFACE, Les Idoles Collective invites us into a space of play, contradiction, and confusion, where fixed identities and imposed labels can be set aside. The performers slip into other skins—idols, ghosts, animals, colors, bourgeois figures, revolutionaries. From obsolete to contemporary, from star to banal, from laughter to terror, nothing is fixed or named. Everything becomes illusion, trickery, cinema, and lies.

Les Idoles’ approach is rooted in research, appropriation, and playful reinvention. A tribute collective criss-crossed by countless cinematic, photographic, and musical references, they draw on figures as diverse as Granny Gisou, Beyoncé, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, or Buster Keaton. Their practice questions the images that surround us, popular and elitist, iconic and trivial, asking which ones we revere, which ones fade, and which endure. Based on physical and musical exploration, they create hybrid, offbeat, sometimes anachronistic projects that shift codes, challenge viewpoints, and unsettle fixed representations. The gaze and the relationship with the audience remain central, compelling them to constantly reinvent both themselves and their use of space.
