„Mavara“ at the Solo Festival
Multidisciplinary artist Chiara Marchese returns to our region to present her show Mavara at the Festival Sola in Belgrade.
In Sicilian, „Mavara“ refers to a woman endowed with a unique perception. Created in 2016, Chiara Marchese’s work explores the delicate coexistence between animated and inanimate bodies, balancing on a slack rope. Dance, puppetry, and circus intertwine to create a living score, while the quest for balance highlights the fragility of the human being.
About Chiara Marchese:
Born in Sicily in 1988, Chiara Marchese first discovered art through painting before turning to the slack rope. She has been mentioned in a Sorbonne University thesis on circus and puppetry and contributed to the Encyclopedia of Circus Arts. Her work is also cited in the book From the Tightrope to the Slackline, as well as in publications by Bernard Andrieu on the philosophy of the body. Today, Chiara focuses her research on the intersection of different disciplines — circus, puppetry, visual arts, dance, and theater — through her third solo project, Wonderwoman.
This program is supported by the 2024 Teatroskop call for projects.
